D-Day 80 Flag
Clipstone Parish Council has proudly received a D-Day 80 flag for the community.
It will be raised by the Royal British Legion at the flagpole at Clipstone Welfare at 09.00hrs on June 6th, 80 years after the actual D-Day.
According to the Imperial War Museum, “D-Day - 6 June 1944 - was the largest amphibious invasion in the history of warfare. The statistics of D-Day, codenamed Operation Overlord, are staggering. The Allies used over 5,000 ships and landing craft to land more than 150,000 troops on five beaches in Normandy. The landings marked the start of a long and costly campaign in north-west Europe, which ultimately convinced the German high command that defeat was inevitable.”
Pictured with the flag are parish council Chairman David Eskriett and Clerk Michelle Paxton.
Additionally, a ‘Design a D-Day 80 Medal’ competition is being facilitated by the Parish Council. Children are invited to design a D-Day 80 Medal on a template provided by the council. There are three age range categories for competition entries:
- Age 5 and under
- Age 6 to 11
- Age 12 and over
Each category has a winning prize of a £50 Amazon voucher and a £20 Amazon voucher for the runner up. Design a D-Day 80 Medal competition entries will be judged by members of Clipstone and Forest Town Royal British Legion on 6 June 2024.
Samuel Barlow School, Clipstone Youth Club, Busy Bees Nursery, 1st Clipstone Scout Group and the Clipstone Detachment of Army Cadets are all busy creating their medal designs.
If any members of the community would like to enter the competition, please contact the parish office for a medal template. The Parish Office is open Monday to Friday 9am-12noon.
New Defibrillator
Parish Council installing new defib in Clipstone, thanks to BHF grant
A new defibrillator is to be installed in a former telephone box in Clipstone, after the Parish Council was successful in applying for a British Heart Foundation grant. This means that there will be five of the potentially life saving pieces of equipment in the village.
The council has begun works to restore the former phone box on the junction of King John’s Road and Mansfield Road and transform it into a defibrillator kiosk. The kiosk will have new signage so that it is highly visible, and the new defib will complement the existing defib locations at Clipstone Youth Club, the Co-op on Cavendish Way, Bee Noticed Unit 8 Woodland Close and Eastfield Close Community Centre.
In line with the Resuscitation Council UK guidance, the defibrillator will be easily accessible and can be used by anyone in the event of an emergency. Residents will not need specialist training, as once switched on the device guides users with clear step-by-step audible instructions.
The defib is a device that gives a jolt of energy to the heart. This helps to get the heart beating again when someone’s heart has stopped and they are in cardiac arrest. The device checks the person’s heart rhythm and will only advise to give the patient a shock if it’s needed. It’s not possible for a user to shock themselves or someone else accidentally and cause unintended harm.
Parish Council Chairman David Eskriett said: ”It is a statistic that many people will witness a cardiac arrest in their lifetime, and so the Parish Council is encouraging all residents to be ready for that day. We’re grateful to the British Heart Foundation for the grant as the new defib could well save somebody’s life.”
The British Heart Foundation’s free digital training tool, RevivR, teaches vital CPR skills and how to use a defibrillator in just 15 minutes from a mobile phone, tablet or computer. Created by medical experts, the training tool will take people through a real-life scenario, so they feel prepared in the event of an emergency. Residents can learn today by taking the training using this link: Learn CPR in 15 minutes | RevivR | BHF - BHF
If someone is in cardiac arrest, residents should call 999 and start CPR. Residents should not interrupt CPR to go to find a defibrillator, but instead try to send someone else to find one. When 999 is called, the operator will tell the caller where the nearest public access defibrillator is located.
The council will issue a further update to confirm the defibrillator is in situ and has been fully installed and registered on The Circuit, the national defibrillator network.
In the meantime, residents with any questions should contact the Parish Office on admin@clipstoneparishcouncil.org or phone 01623 626857.
The Parish Office is open between 9am and midday Monday to Friday
Letters To Heaven
We would like to invite Clipstone residents to attend the launch of the Letters To Heaven postbox this coming Saturday (Nov 25th).
Clipstone Parish Council chairman David Eskriett will unveil the new postbox at 10am at Clipstone Cemetery.
The idea is that people who have lost a loved one can write a letter to them and post it in the box.
The postbox has been funded by the council following a suggestion from Lee and Emma Wilson, whose beloved daughter Evie died in July 2021 at the age of 13.
Also in attendance will be 10-year-old Matilda, from Nottingham, who first came up with the idea when one of her own relatives passed away.
Councillor Eskriett will open the event with a few words, Matilda will then help him unveil the letterbox, and Lee and Emma will then be invited to be the first people to use it.
Teas and coffees will be available to those in attendance, and it is expected that the event will take no longer than one hour.
Any queries should be directed to the parish council clerk, Michelle Paxton, using the email address clerk@clipstoneparishcouncil.org
Parish Council Land Survey
Clipstone Parish Council have 3 plots of land in Clipstone and are seeking public suggestions for use of these areas. The 3 locations are:
- large area of land off Highfield Road
- small area of land on Church Road at the rear of the village hall
- area of grassed area between 7th Avenue and the access to the cricket club
The responses to the survey will allow the Parish Council to decide the best use of these areas of land. The ultimate uses will be subject to a number of restrictions including planning, feasibility, covenants, funding available and the like.

Helping Hands
Youngsters of Clipstone village are invited to give a helping hand to a special project that is part of celebrations that mark the coronation of King Charles III.
Clipstone Parish Council wants to create special bunting to be displayed at the Coronation Big Lunch event which will take place at Clipstone Miners Welfare on Sunday 7 May 12pm – 5pm and at various locations around Clipstone village, including the Cavendish estate and at the village hall.
The council wants youngsters to put their handprints on the bunting and as such has organised a special painting event to be held at the Village Hall between 12 noon and 2pm on Saturday, April 29.
The council also has a limited number of commemorative coronation gifts, and these will be available to children only.
Council chairman David Eskriett said: “This is a lovely, creative event that is all part of the village’s coronation celebrations. It will be great for youngsters to get involved and be part of it all, and have a nice memento of the time.”
Thanks to Samuel Barlow School, Busy Bees Day Nursery, and Clipstone Youth Club who are involved in the Coronation handprint bunting project too.

Making Mansfield
YOUR CHANCE TO SHARE YOUR VIEWS
What will a successful Mansfield look like in the years to come? What will make it special?
Anyone with an interest in Mansfield (through work, leisure, friends or family) is being invited to give their views, as part of ambitious plans to shape a future vision for the district. Input from the public, businesses and other organisations will be used to create a strategy, setting out what Mansfield aspires to become in the coming decades.
This will be used to promote and improve the district – inspiring local communities, encouraging more companies to invest and create jobs, and attracting more people to the area.
Have your say by completing the survey at www.surveymonkey.co.uk/r/6VB8RTM by 22 March.
